Art and Human Struggle: Frida Kahlo's "Broken Column"
I believe Frida Kahlo tries to express human struggle in her work, "Broken Column," because the woman in the painting is expressionless to herself and the torn landscape around her, in which if the world is torn and disasterous, she becomes torn as well and sensitive to it as a result. Frida Kahlo got hit by a bus and spent most of her life bed-ridden in plaster casts which in turn caused her to make this painting seem quite compelling to the world and human struggle in an art form.
